Prova Pizzabar

Prova Pizzabar is a culinary and architectural integration of old world traditions with a modern twist. The 1600 square foot upscale, fast-casual restaurant is located in the street level corner of the Moxy, NYC’s newest and hippest hotel. Celebrity chef Donatella Arpaia’s fresh and colorful food is highlighted by a subdued palette which balances plays of light and dark materials to increase the perception of color. Bounded by rustic wood furniture, blackened metal finishes, and raw exposed walls, New World Design Builders incorporated a new technology into the centerpiece of the space—a light sculpture composed of 350 3D-printed LED light shades. Like a chef honing a new recipe, NWDB created almost 45 digital and physical prototypes in the pursuit of the perfect form. This sculpture transforms the space from day to night as a beautiful white chandelier turns Prova into an after hours eatery bedecked in a full spectrum of rave worthy colors.

Chef Donatella sought out NWDB with the intention of designing a restaurant that captures the nightlife essence of the Moxy Hotel. NWDB has a long and successful history of combining restaurant and nightlife, creating the perfect design synergy between food and play. It was important to Chef Donatella to brand the restaurant vibe parallel to that of the Moxy, being able to transform the space from a daytime fast casual dining pizzabar, to a sexy nighttime venue for post-drinking snacks.
